LeCoultre Calibre 476 12A Bumper Wind Automatic Circa 1946-

This is a very rare and exceptional example of Jaeger LeCoultre’s (JLC’s) first automatic winding watch, Calibre 476 also known as the 12A. This vintage watch was introduced in 1946 and represented significant effort by JLC designers and watchmakers. The watch is in extraordinary condition. Early automatic watches used something called a bumper wind, which involves two springs that push a weight back/forth as you move your hand. Later automatic watch movements used a spinning rotor that spun when you moved your hand. Bumper wind automatics are very efficient and reliable movements and are fun to wear as you can feel the automatic weight move back-and-forth with each wind. As one of Switzerland’s finest watchmakers with a long history. This watch is in need of servicing however the case, crystal, and movement is clean while maintaining the beautiful aged patina on the dial and hands.
